A comprehensive plan is a document created for sharing a community’s long-term vision. In New York State, these documents are used to guide choices about growth, infrastructure, and investment. Sherburne last updated its plan in 2008; a thoughtful update built around local values and priorities and will serve as a useful planning tool and give the town much greater influence in the decisions that guide its future.
Community input is at the heart of the process because a plan is only useful if it reflects the values of those who call Sherburne home.
This guide was put together to guide communities through the comp plan process. While we have tried to condense the material as best we could, it does not include every aspect that a community might need.
This guide was created as a guide for communities to incorporate "sustainability elements" in their new or updated comp plan. While not exhaustive, it provides a framework for meeting NYSDEC requirements.
This reference sheet was created to give the comp plan steering committee a quick overview of components to include in your final comp plan/update, based on NYSDEC guidance.
