Our goal is to understand the food sources in the Central Adirondack Regional Corridor (CARC) region and find effective local solutions to promote local and fresh food options for all. We want to have a direct and long lasting impact on this rural community. From our research, we plan to develop relationships with new partners, identify potential private-public partnerships, and identify funding opportunities for any projects.
Equitable food access that prioritizes local fresh food allows people to live full and healthy lives, strengthens community and regional economic development, and makes communities more resilient to economic shock. A lesson learned during the pandemic was that our local supply chains need help and this project will help Herkimer County and the surrounding region become more self-reliant, help prevent food shortages and food waste, and overcome hurdles associated with getting local food into the hands of local consumers.
